I’m Michael,
A gemologist, designer and founder of Michael Isaac, a fine jewellery brand based in York specialising exclusively in one-of-a-kind engagement and wedding rings.
From my boutique nestled beneath the iconic York Minster, I work closely with each client to design or help them to select a ring from my curated collection, as unique and meaningful as their love story.
From guiding more than 1,000 couples to their perfect ring, to designing one-of-a-kind pieces for world-class athletes, chart-topping musicians, and A-list clients — my work has always been about meaning, not mass production.
But my journey began long before any of that.

Growing up in my family’s Yorkshire jewellery business, I was captivated by the beauty of fine jewellery and precious stones. I always knew this was the path I wanted to follow — but I wanted to learn from the very best.
I spent more than a decade immersed in fine jewellery — from diamond sourcing to design, working alongside some of Bond Street’s most respected master craftsmen. Over time, I became obsessed with the smallest details of the craft — the subtleties of proportion, polish, and precision that transform a beautiful design into a true masterpiece.
That curiosity led me to train as a gemologist at the world-renowned Gemological Institute of America, where I developed a deep understanding of diamonds and their unique characteristics.
But as my experience grew, so did my perspective.

I started to noticed two major problems in the world of engagement rings.
1. A lack of individuality
Rings found in most jewellers are often catalogue designs — anyone can have them, and there’s nothing truly special or unique about them.
2. A high price tag doesn’t always mean high quality
Many high street jewellers add huge markups, charging far more for branding and sales commissions than for true craftsmanship.
I wanted to change this — so I set out to create a better way.
The first step was building a state-of-the-art workshop and a private design studio in York, where every idea could move seamlessly from concept to creation. With one of my former Bond Street master craftsmen on board, I set out to combine innovation with traditional British craftsmanship at the highest level.
I soon discovered that by crafting each ring in-house, meeting clients through private one-to-one design appointments, and collaborating directly with diamond cutters, I could remove every unnecessary layer between the client and the craft — guaranteeing exceptional quality, lasting value, and a ring as unique as the story behind it.
And from that vision, the Michael Isaac brand was born.
